Ovarian Reserve Testing
Helps a woman evaluate her egg supply and her fertility potential.
1. Antral Follicle Count (AFC)
Done with transvaginal ultrasound scan with little patient discomfort. The antral follicles appear as small dark circular shadows measuring 2 to 8mm, whereby each follicle contains one egg.
2. Anti- Mullerian Hormone (AMH)
A hormone produced by small follicles in the ovary which contains eggs.
Higher levels generally indicate a better ovarian reserve, and it declines rapidly from the age of 35 years old. It , however, does not predict the quality of eggs.
